martine & femke

Welcome at Hostel Skagagården!

We are Martine and Femke and have been living in Sweden since May 2022. Because of our love for nature, peace and space, we emigrated from the Netherlands to Sweden. Here we still find untouched nature and we can walk for hours through the woods without meeting anyone.

Our entrepreneurial spirit was rekindled when we saw that the Swedish Church, owner of Skagagården, was looking for new managers.

As of May 1, 2025, we have opened at Skagagården and have upgraded all rooms.

All rooms are cozily furnished and always have made beds with bed linen. You also get towels and we take care of the final cleaning, because our motto is: When you're on vacation, you don't have to clean!

walking/hiking in naturepark tiveden.

Tiveden National Park – Adventure in the Swedish WildernessLocation: Between the lakes of Vänern and Vättern in southern Sweden, near the villages of Karlsborg and Askersund.Tiveden National Park is one of Sweden’s most rugged and untouched natural areas. It is known for its deep forests, mysterious rock formations, tranquil lakes and fairytale atmosphere. For centuries, this area was so inaccessible that it was a haven for robbers and bandits – today it is a paradise for nature lovers and adventurers. What to do in Tiveden?
Hiking
The park has a network of well-marked hiking trails, ranging from short family-friendly hikes to challenging day hikes over rough terrain. Popular trails include:Stenkällerundan (2.2 km) – past caves, boulders and old spruce trees.
Tärnekullerundan (1.3 km) – easy and suitable for children.
Trollkyrkorundan (6.3 km) – takes you to 'the troll church', an impressive rock formation.
The paths often go over rocks and roots, so sturdy walking shoes are recommended.
Horse riding
In the area around the park there are opportunities for guided horse riding through the forests and over sandy roads. Several local riding schools offer rides for beginners and advanced riders. A unique way to experience Swedish nature!

Skaga stavkyrka

Skaga Stave Church is the third church on the site. The first, much-studded with legends, was from the 12th century. It was demolished in 1826.

The second church was inaugurated in 1960 and there was also a belfry with recovered church bells on site. At New Year's Day 2000, the church burned down due to short circuit, but a decision was soon made to rebuild it.

The third church, built in the old traditional way, was inaugurated in midsummer 2001, equipped with a gun case and newly designed pews. The altar slab used is the stepping stone from the previous church, the only thing that could be reused.

A bear skin as a choir rug, a silver curtain over the pulpit and a hollowed-out oak log belong to the church according to tradition and legend.
